Meet David McIntyre - Director, Treasurer and Chair of the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee

Originally from Sydney, David brings a diverse and impressive professional background to South West Community Foundation. His career has spanned foreign exchange, statistics, hotel and resort management, logistics, professional services and information technology. With a Bachelor of Business specialising in Technology and Economics, and a lifelong interest in finance and investment, David also founded a tech start-up, giving him a broad and practical approach to problem solving.

Since settling in the South West with his young family, David has focused his skills and energy on strengthening the foundations of our local community. Through his role at SWCF, he provides strategic oversight across finance, audit and risk, ensuring strong governance and long-term sustainability for the Foundation.

We are grateful for David’s expertise and commitment to building a financially secure and thriving future for South West Victoria.

South West Community Foundation is proud to be part of the ongoing work led by @regionalartsvic through the South West Creative Industries Strategy.

Since 2020, the Strategy has provided a collaborative and forward-thinking roadmap to strengthen and grow our region’s creative sector. As Victoria’s first regional creative strategy, now in its second iteration, it continues to bring together councils, government and community partners to champion local talent and opportunity.

Recently, the South West Victoria Working Group came together to focus on Youth and Creative Industries. It was an energising and insightful session, bringing together 20 participants from seven organisations, including six talented young locals already making their mark in the region.

Together, we explored the priorities and challenges facing young creatives and identified opportunities to collaborate across councils, organisations and communities. The alignment in the room was clear, along with a shared commitment to working together to support the next generation.

We’re excited to be part of building these connections and contributing to a strong, creative future for South West Victoria.

🌟 Celebrating Local Community Champions 🌟

Yesterday, South West Community Foundation Executive Officer Alison Byrne and Colac Community Fund Advisory Committee Chair Robyn Alexander attended the 2026 Polwarth Award Medal presentation at “Narroghid” in Elliminyt.

Hosted by MP Richard Riordan, the annual medal recognises local heroes across the Polwarth electorate — celebrating volunteers and community champions who go above and beyond to support others. Recipients are honoured for their contributions to community groups, emergency services, charity work and many other vital causes, with winners later recognised in parliament.

We are delighted to celebrate this year’s recipient, Jennifer Chiu, for her incredible support of the Rotary Club of Colac’s East Up Program. Through this initiative, more than 17,000 lunches have been prepared and distributed to children across the Surf Coast and Colac Otway Shires — making a real difference to families in our region.

The Colac Community Fund, part of South West Community Foundation, has proudly supported this program on several occasions, helping this important work continue.

Heartfelt congratulations to Jen, and to all the volunteers and supporters who make this wonderful program possible. Your commitment is helping ensure local children are cared for and supported every day.

Mett Ray Kaynes - Director, Company Secretary and Chair - Koroit Sub Fund Advisory Committee

Ray moved to Koroit in March 2020 after retiring from a 49 year career as a lawyer in private practice. Throughout his professional life, he has consistently contributed to not for profit boards and small family charities, building a strong foundation in governance and community service.

Joining South West Community Foundation has allowed Ray to continue that commitment to community, now with a strong local focus. With children and grandchildren living in Koroit, he is deeply invested in the town’s future and the strength of the wider South West region.

Ray is passionate about supporting local giving and ensuring the Koroit Sub Fund continues to grow and deliver meaningful impact for the community.

We are grateful for the experience and dedication Ray brings to SWCF and to the Koroit & District community.

Looking to give back in 2026? When you donate to South West Community Foundation, you’re investing in your own backyard, forever.

All donations to our Foundation are held in perpetuity. That means we invest the funds and reinvest the returns back into the South West community, year after year. It’s a powerful way to create lasting impact close to home.

Every dollar counts. Every donation helps grow connection, resilience and opportunity in our region.

If 2026 is the year you choose to give back, we’d love you to consider supporting SWCF.
