At South West Community Foundation, we believe in the power of local people backing local ideas. 💜

Our purpose is simple: to celebrate, support and strengthen the people and places that make South West Victoria special. Through grassroots giving, we turn local generosity into lasting impact — supporting initiatives that build connection, resilience and opportunity across our six shires.

This video brings to life the heart of what we do — and why we do it.
Because when our community thrives, we all thrive.

From Colac to Portland and everywhere in between, our region is showing up — with heart, with hope, and with a clear message: we’re stronger when we support each other.

Over the past few months, we’ve listened to local organisations, community groups and changemakers through our PLACE Australia Listening Posts — and what we’ve heard is clear. Communities across the south-west are ready to lead and shape their own futures, but they need the right support behind them.

Wrapping up our Warrnambool Listening Post with two powerful reminders of what made the day so special 💜

📸 A room full of passionate, community-driven people — all committed to building a stronger, more connected south-west.
🎨 And this stunning final illustration by @sarahthefirth, capturing the heart of the conversations, ideas and energy shared on the day.

We’re so proud to have hosted this event in collaboration with PLACE Australia and Deakin University, and even prouder of the incredible local organisations who showed up, spoke up, and inspired us all.

🎤 Listening, learning, and leading — together.

This week we were proud to host a PLACE Australia Regional Listening Post at the stunning Hycel building, in collaboration with @deakinuniversity Warrnambool Campus.
We welcomed representatives from 20 incredible community organisations across South West Victoria, all coming together to connect, share challenges, and celebrate the work happening in their own backyard.

This session was part of PLACE Australia’s Community Roadshow & Listening Tour, a national initiative designed to spotlight the stories, solutions and lived experience driving place-based change across the country.
From building partnerships to unpacking shared barriers, it was an inspiring day of insight and energy — made possible by the brilliant PLACE Australia team and the passionate local leaders who joined us.

We’re proud to be part of the movement shaping stronger, more connected communities. 💛

How incredible is this illustration by the talented @sarahthefirth? 💜
Sarah joined us virtually for our Warrnambool Listening Post, tuning in via Zoom to soak up the energy, stories and insights shared by our inspiring group of community organisations.

From there, she brought it all to life — creating this dynamic, step-by-step illustration that captures the spirit, passion and purpose in the room. From shared challenges to bold hopes for the future, it’s all here, beautifully told through art.
We absolutely love the way this piece reflects the energy of the day — thank you so much, Sarah!

The day after our Warrnambool Listening Post, we packed up and hit the highway — taking the conversation to Hamilton. And what a group we had!

A room full of passionate, driven, community-minded people all working hard to make a difference in their corner of the south-west.

Thanks to everyone who came along, shared their insights and helped shape the future of place-based work in our region. The energy in the room was inspiring, and we’re so grateful to be on this journey alongside you. 💜
