This week is NAIDOC Week, held annually from 5 to 12 July.

NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and to recognise their enduring connection to Country, community and culture.

This year's theme is 50 Years Deadly, marking five decades of strength, leadership and community.

We acknowledge and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the South West Victoria region and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

The Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) is supporting rural communities through their Investing in Rural Community Futures (IRCF) program, a grassroots initiative designed to build the capacity of local not-for-profit organisations.

The IRCF Victoria program is currently underway in three communities, including right here in Colac, where local facilitator Liz Bishop is working with the NFP sector to strengthen collaboration, advocate on shared issues and deliver long-term community impact.

A recent community roadmap check-in was a valuable opportunity to reflect on progress and hear directly from local voices.
"Being new to community foundations, this was a great opportunity to understand the NFP sector in Colac, meet the people who work and volunteer in that sector, and understand how our Colac Community Fund fits within that picture," SWCF Executive Officer Alison said.

Colac Community Fund members Gemma, Brian and Robyn also participated in the program, and it was wonderful to see the fund represented so well.

A meaningful reminder of what can be achieved when local voices lead the way.

End of Financial Year is just around the corner.

If you have funds you’d like to put to work in your local community before 30 June, we’d love you to consider South West Community Foundation.

Since we began, we’ve grown from an initial trust fund of $70,000 to more than $2 million in community funds — and every dollar has gone straight back into supporting local organisations, grassroots projects, and community initiatives across South West Victoria.

Whether it’s disability groups, students, leadership programs, community house activities — and the list goes on right across our footprint — your support helps make it happen.

Some of the organisations and initiatives we’ve supported include:
Riding for the Disabled, Find Your Light Choir, uniforms for a local football team, Hospice in the Home, Leadership Great South Coast, Farm My School, Brophy, Koroit Community Garden, Plates to Paddocks.

Every one of these represents real people, real impact, and real change in our region.

If you’d like to be part of it, you can donate online at givenow.com.au/southwestcommunitysupport or get in touch to learn more about how your giving can make a lasting difference in South West Victoria.

Last week, Alison attended the second workshop in the @leadershipgsc
Rural Women LEAD program, and it didn't disappoint.

Led by Jessica Fishburn, the session explored self-leadership, wellbeing and the neuroscience behind sustainable success. From understanding the brain's optimal arousal zones to practical goal-setting strategies, it was a genuinely thought-provoking day focused on taking intentional action in both life and work.

This is the second in a series of workshops Alison has attended as part of the program, and the connections being built with women across the region are just as valuable as the learning itself.

South West Community Foundation is proud to support Leadership Great South Coast and the meaningful work they do to elevate women in regional Victoria. We can't wait to see what the next session brings.

South West Community Foundation is proud to announce a new Community Charitable Trust partnership with the Warrnambool Multicultural Association (WMA).

This partnership is about backing local people and building something lasting for multicultural communities across Warrnambool and South West Victoria, not just for now, but for the long term.

Together, we'll work to:
- Grow the Warrnambool Multicultural Association as a strong regional voice for multicultural communities
- Celebrate and strengthen cultural diversity, inclusion and connection across the region
- Bring people together through intercultural community events
- Make it easier for multicultural communities to access services in safe and welcoming ways
- Support belonging, wellbeing and social connection across the South West

Pictured is Daisy Ye, one of the key drivers behind the formation of the WMA. Her dedication to building community is exactly what this partnership is about.

At its heart, this is about people, culture and community and creating real spaces where everyone feels they belong.

South West Community Foundation is proud to support the veterans of the @rslwarrnambool community.

Warrnambool RSL is the first organisation to access SWCF's new Community Charity Trust, a giving structure designed to support organisations delivering genuine charitable outcomes for our communities. It's a significant milestone, and a fitting one.

Our support is directed to the people at the heart of this organisation — the veterans and their families — not the commercial operations of the RSL itself. It's the welfare, the connection and the care for those who have served that we are proud to be part of.

The Warrnambool RSL committee works hard to ensure veterans and their families have access to essential support services and programs. Beyond that, these dedicated volunteers continue to raise funds for RSL Australia and host important community events that honour the spirit of remembrance across our region.

Veterans give so much in service to this country. We are proud to support the people and programs that make sure they are not forgotten.
